Lagos arrests 396 beggars for repatriation

Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps have apprehended a total of 396 beggars across the state. The arrest was part of ongoing efforts to maintain public order and environmental cleanliness.

Commissioner confirms repatriation plan

State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunboh Wahab, disclosed the figure to newsmen. He stated that the apprehended individuals would be profiled, provided with appropriate assistance where necessary, and handed over to relevant authorities to facilitate their safe return to their respective states of origin.

Government commitment to public order

Wahab emphasized that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining public order, protecting the environment, and ensuring a cleaner, safer, and more secure Lagos for all residents. The operation targets street begging, which authorities view as a public nuisance and a risk to sanitation.
