Couple Found Dead in Wooded Area
Authorities in Alabama have revealed that a man died from a heart attack while attempting to discard the body of his girlfriend, whom he had fatally strangled. The bodies of Jessica Folds, 47, and Daniel Robbins, 44, were discovered next to each other in a wooded area near an abandoned vehicle in Lanett on the morning of Wednesday, June 10.
The Chambers County Sheriff's Office stated that the bodies were sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for autopsies. Investigators later determined that Robbins, who was from Georgia, and Folds, a resident of Lanett, had been in a relationship prior to her death.
Heart Attack During Body Disposal
Local District Attorney Mike Segrest explained the sequence of events: “He died of a heart attack while doing it. Their bodies were right there together.” According to Segrest, the investigation by local and state law enforcement, combined with autopsy results, confirmed that Folds “was strangled” and that Robbins “was attempting to dispose of [her] body in a remote location” when he died.
When deputies arrived, the truck near the bodies was still running with the driver's side door open. The tailgate was down, and drag marks led into the woods where the couple were found, Segrest told AL.com.
Domestic Violence Suspected
Segrest told the outlet that investigators suspect Robbins killed Folds as an act of domestic violence. He added that the events likely occurred the previous night, given that the truck was still running. Local news outlets reported that Folds was the mother of three adult sons. An obituary described her as someone who “touched the lives of many with her heart of gold, deep love for everyone, and a smile that brightened the world.” Robbins' survivors included a daughter, according to his obituary.
