The Nigerian Navy has urged communities in Enugu State to be law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies in order to address the prevailing insecurity. Commodore Nsikan Friday, Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship MADUEKE, made this appeal during an educational empowerment outreach in Adani community, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Enugu State, as part of activities marking the 70th anniversary of the Nigerian Navy.
Educational Outreach and CSR
The Navy provided exercise books and vests to all primary and secondary schools in Adani as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The area hosts the Naval base. Commodore Friday stated that the outreach aimed to support the future of the children in the area and educate them about the Navy's activities.
“This was done to celebrate the 70 years of the Nigerian Navy so that we can also educate them about the activities of the Navy. We thought that since the children are the future, we should reach out to them with our programmes and activities so that they can become part of the Navy,” he said.
Infrastructure Support
He disclosed that the Navy has periodically intervened in school infrastructure by furnishing classrooms and toilets to make them more conducive for learning. He thanked the Adani community for their continued support to the Nigerian Navy and urged them to always provide prompt information that could help prevent crimes.
“Prompting us when they suspect any criminal activity will go a long way in preventing crimes. Within our operational environment, there has been relative security and economic activity has been thriving due to the synergy between us and the community. This is because they have been cooperative, and we urge them to continue in that spirit,” he added.
