The Delta State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 945 personnel across the state to ensure the safety of residents and protection of critical national assets before, during, and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Anthony Uchenna, on behalf of the State Commandant, Chinedu Igbo.
Deployment Aimed at Peaceful Celebration
According to the statement, the deployment was aimed at guaranteeing a peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebration across the state. The operation became necessary due to the large concentration of critical national assets and infrastructure in Delta State, including facilities owned by federal, state, and local governments, as well as privately owned infrastructure considered vital to the nation’s economy.
Collaboration with Other Security Agencies
Igbo charged the deployed officers and men to work closely with other security agencies in the state to ensure effective security coverage and rapid response to any threat. He disclosed that personnel for the special operation were drawn from various tactical and specialised units of the corps, including the Counter Terrorism Unit, Rapid Response Squad, and the Female Squad.
Round-the-Clock Surveillance
The NSCDC further revealed that surveillance and patrol operations around the Second Niger Bridge would be conducted round the clock, while other identified flashpoints and black spots across the state had also been adequately covered. The command assured Muslim faithful and residents of adequate security at all designated Eid prayer grounds across Delta State.
Appeal to Residents
Igbo also felicitated with Muslim faithful on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration and urged residents to remain law-abiding and security conscious throughout the festive season. The command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, emphasizing that the deployment would remain in place until after the celebrations.
