The Commissioner of Police for Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, yesterday visited schools and communities in Ijebu-Ode affected by a chemical irritant incident that led to the hospitalization of about 15 students. The visit was for an on-the-spot assessment of the impact.
Police Deployment Ordered
CP Ojajuni ordered additional deployment of Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) personnel, Surveillance Teams, tactical operatives, and the School Protection Squad. This is to strengthen security coverage, support emergency operations, and ensure public safety around the affected schools and communities.
Affected Schools
The schools impacted include Our Ladies Grammar School, Epe Garage; Anglican Girls Grammar School, Obalende; Titilayo Agbaje Comprehensive High School, Imosan; Ifesowapo Comprehensive High School, Imosan; St. Peter's Anglican Primary School, Imosan; and Orphanage Primary School, Imosan.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the situation in a statement in Abeokuta. He said the situation has been brought under control, while monitoring and technical assessments continue.
Joint Assessment Visit
Babaseyi stated that the CP visited the affected areas in the company of the Ogun State Commissioners for Education, Environment, and Health. During the visit, residents, teachers, parents, students, and community stakeholders were sensitized on precautionary safety measures and emergency response procedures.
The assessment was carried out alongside the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DCP Muritala Bolanle, the Officer in Charge of the EOD Unit, and other emergency response stakeholders. The CP addressed the people, urging calmness, vigilance, and strict adherence to established emergency protocols.

CP Ojajuni urged members of the public to contact the Ogun State Government Emergency Call Centre on 08112000033 in case of any emergency. He advised residents to immediately call for help, assist affected persons to breathe using wet clothes where necessary, and promptly convey victims to the nearest hospital for medical attention.
