Ogun CP Visits Schools, Communities After Chemical Incident

The Commissioner of Police for Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, visited affected schools and communities in Ijebu-Ode on Tuesday to conduct an on-the-spot assessment following a chemical incident that led to the hospitalization of about 15 students. The students were hospitalized after inhaling a foul-smelling chemical irritant.

Deployment of Security Personnel

CP Ojajuni ordered the deployment of additional Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) personnel, Surveillance Teams, tactical operatives, and the School Protection Squad. These measures aim to strengthen security coverage, support emergency operations, and ensure public safety in and around the affected schools and communities.

Affected Schools

The schools impacted by the incident include Our Ladies Grammar School, Epe Garage; Anglican Girls Grammar School, Obalende; Titilayo Agbaje Comprehensive High School, Imosan; Ifesowapo Comprehensive High School, Imosan; St. Peter’s Anglican Primary School, Imosan; and Orphanage Primary School, Imosan.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the development in a statement issued in Abeokuta. He noted that the situation has been brought under control, while monitoring and technical assessments continue.

Collaborative Assessment

Babaseyi stated that the Commissioner visited the affected areas alongside the Ogun State Commissioners for Education, Environment, and Health. During the visit, residents, teachers, parents, students, and community stakeholders were sensitized on precautionary safety measures and emergency response procedures.

The assessment team included the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DCP Muritala Bolanle; the Officer in Charge of the EOD Unit; and other emergency response stakeholders. CP Ojajuni addressed the public, urging calmness, vigilance, and strict adherence to established emergency protocols.

Public Advisory

The Commissioner urged members of the public to contact the Ogun State Government Emergency Call Centre at 08112000033 in case of any emergency. He advised residents to immediately call for help, assist affected persons by using wet cloths to aid breathing where necessary, and promptly convey victims to the nearest hospital for medical attention.
