Ondo Approves Health Insurance, Pension for Amotekun

The Ondo State Government has approved a comprehensive welfare package for operatives of the State Security Network Agency, commonly known as the Amotekun Corps, in a strategic move to establish a sustainable and effective security framework.

Key Welfare Benefits for Amotekun Operatives

The initiative includes health insurance coverage under the Contributory Health Insurance Scheme, pension benefits through the Contributory Pension Scheme, and formal enlistment warrants for the corps' officers and personnel. This aims to professionalize the state's security apparatus amid growing concerns over crime prevention and public safety.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the health insurance scheme will enable operatives and their families to access quality healthcare services, thereby boosting the productivity of those at the forefront of security operations. The issuance of warrants of service enlistment has been authorized pending the completion of the necessary legal framework.

In addition to the existing life insurance policy, operatives will also benefit from the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), according to government sources.

Government's Commitment to Security Personnel Welfare

Speaking with journalists in Akure on Monday, the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, described the package as a morale-boosting measure designed to enhance the commitment of security operatives to safeguarding lives and property.

"The governor recognizes that without a motivated and well-cared-for security workforce, the fight against crime cannot yield sustainable results. These interventions are not mere gestures but structural changes to the operational environment of our Amotekun corps," Ajanaku said.

Deployment for Eid-el-Kabir and Crime Fighting Success

The commissioner further disclosed that 650 operatives have been deployed across the 18 local government areas of the state to ensure adequate security before, during, and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. He assured residents that the government remains committed to proactive measures that will sustain peace and public safety throughout the festive period.

Ajanaku revealed that the corps has arrested 98 suspected criminals, including fake lunatics allegedly linked to kidnapping and robbery activities across the state. He said the arrests demonstrate the agency's resolve to combat criminality and reinforce public confidence in the state's security system.

"We will not relent until every criminal element finds Ondo State too hot to operate. The era of using mental health disguised as a cover for banditry is over," Ajanaku stated.
