High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has called for peace in Warri, Delta State, as tensions rise among the Ijaw, Urhobo, and Itsekiri communities over the incomplete ward delineation exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Tompolo's Appeal for Calm
In a statement personally signed by him, the Chairman of Tantita Security Services urged INEC to take the necessary steps to restore tranquility in Warri and its environs. He noted that since June 8, 2026, peaceful protests by women and youths from various communities have led to the occupation of oil and gas installations in the Escravos and Warri river areas.
Tompolo emphasized that many well-meaning Nigerians have called for a peaceful resolution to the impasse, and he joins them in urging all parties to avoid violence. He highlighted the Ijaw nation's historical commitment to peace, stating that the current situation must not be allowed to escalate into conflict.
Call for Community Leaders' Meeting
The Niger Delta leader called for an immediate meeting of community leaders to devise a way forward. He appealed to the people of Warri, regardless of their ethnic background, to remain calm and patient while waiting for INEC to complete the delineation exercise.
Tompolo's statement concluded with a strong plea for INEC to do the right thing and restore peace in Warri and surrounding areas.
