Double Tragedy Strikes Ogun Roads

Ogun State witnessed two devastating road accidents on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, resulting in five fatalities and three serious injuries. The separate incidents occurred along major transportation routes, highlighting ongoing road safety concerns in the state.

Sango-Ijoko Road Collision Claims Three Lives

Three people lost their lives while three others sustained varying injuries when a MAN Diesel truck collided head-on with a TVS tricycle along Sango-Ijoko Road. According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the tragic incident occurred at approximately 6 a.m.

The accident resulted from dangerous overtaking by the truck driver, who attempted to pass another vehicle and instead crashed directly into the tricycle carrying six passengers. Eyewitness accounts confirmed the wrongful overtaking maneuver led to the fatal head-on collision.

The vehicles involved were identified as a MAN Diesel truck with license plate FST 424 XZ and a TVS tricycle bearing plate number AYE 795 VC. The deceased victims were transported to the State Hospital morgue in Ifo, while the injured received immediate medical attention.

Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash Kills Two

In a separate incident along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, two people died when two Mack trailer trucks collided in the Ibafo area. Afolabi Odunsi, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson for Ogun State Command, confirmed the tragic outcome.

Odunsi explained that four people were involved in this crash, with no survivors among the two victims. The accident resulted from combined factors of brake failure and speed violations. Both trucks involved were unregistered Mack trailers, complicating identification and accountability processes.

Emergency responders rushed one victim to AZ Hospital in Magboro, where medical staff later confirmed the individual had succumbed to injuries. The FRSC investigation continues to determine precise causes and potential preventive measures.

Authorities Issue Safety Warnings

Both TRACE and FRSC officials have reiterated the importance of responsible driving practices following these tragic incidents. The agencies emphasized that dangerous overtaking, speeding, and vehicle maintenance neglect continue to contribute significantly to road accidents across Ogun State.

These latest fatalities add to growing concerns about road safety in Nigeria, coming just one day after another fatal accident claimed three lives on the Gombe-Yola Road. Transportation authorities urge motorists to exercise caution, particularly during early morning hours and on high-speed corridors.

Community members and stakeholders have been praised for their swift response in rescue efforts, though officials stress that prevention remains the most effective strategy for reducing road fatalities. Motorists are advised to regularly check vehicle conditions and avoid risky maneuvers that endanger all road users.
