The incident took place at the Al-Adum Juma'at Mosque, located within the Gamboru Market area of Maiduguri. According to the Borno State Police Command, the explosion happened at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, just as worshippers had gathered for Magrib prayers.

Five persons were confirmed dead at the scene, while thirty-five others sustained injuries of varying severity. Emergency responders acted swiftly, evacuating the wounded to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) and the State Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri, for urgent medical treatment.
