Véron Mosengo-Omba Resigns as CAF General Secretary After 30 Years
Véron Mosengo-Omba has officially stepped down from his role as the General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). In a press release dated Sunday, March 29, 2026, issued from Cairo, Egypt, Mosengo-Omba announced his immediate resignation, citing a desire to focus on personal projects after a career spanning more than three decades.
Resignation Announcement and Reasons
In the signed statement, Mosengo-Omba expressed his decision to leave the position to devote himself to more personal endeavors. He highlighted his extensive international professional career, which he described as dedicated to promoting a form of football that unites people, provides education, and fosters hope. "After over 30 years of an international professional career dedicated to promoting an ideal form of football that brings people together, educates, and creates opportunities for hope, I have decided to step down from my position as Secretary General of CAF to devote myself to more personal projects," he stated.
Confidence in CAF's Future
Mosengo-Omba also conveyed his confidence in the future of CAF under the leadership of President Dr. Patrice Motsepe. He emphasized that he is leaving the organization in a prosperous state, having addressed suspicions that had been raised against him. "Now that I have been able to dispel the suspicions that some people have gone to great lengths to cast on me, I can retire with peace of mind and without constraint, leaving the CAF more prosperous than ever," he remarked.
