Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz has announced his final 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup, including Manchester City star Antoine Semenyo and midfielder Thomas Partey. The selection was confirmed just before the team's departure for a friendly match against Wales in Cardiff on Tuesday.
World Cup Campaign
Ghana will travel to North America for their fifth World Cup appearance, competing in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. The tournament kicks off on June 11 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with Ghana opening their campaign against Panama on June 17.
Midfield and Leadership
The midfield features former Arsenal player Thomas Partey, now with Villarreal, despite facing upcoming legal proceedings in the UK related to rape and sexual assault charges, to which he has pleaded not guilty. Veteran Leicester City forward Jordan Ayew has been named captain of the Black Stars. Tottenham winger Mohammed Kudus is absent due to injury.
Antoine Semenyo's Impact
Antoine Semenyo, 26, has had a standout season since joining Manchester City from Bournemouth in January for an initial £62.5 million fee. He scored 11 goals in 27 appearances, earning his place in the squad.
