Flutterwave Hosts Grand 10th Anniversary Gala in Lagos
On Tuesday, February 11th, 2026, the prestigious The Delborough Lagos witnessed a remarkable gathering as Flutterwave, a leading African fintech company, hosted its inaugural Gala Night to commemorate its 10th anniversary. The event brought together a distinguished assembly of political, business, and industry leaders from across the continent, creating a vibrant atmosphere of celebration and networking.
Distinguished Guests and Notable Attendees
The gala was graced by an impressive roster of African elites, including former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo GCON and former Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma. Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu also attended, alongside prominent business figures such as Dr. Cosmas Maduka, founder of Coscharis Group, and Ernest Ndukwe, Chairman of the Board of Directors at MTN Nigeria.
Dr. Stanley Uzochukwu, founder and CEO of Stanel Group and The Delborough Lagos, was present to support the event. The entertainment sector was well-represented by popular Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage, former Big Brother Naija housemates Dorathy and Erica, and acclaimed actress Omotola Jalade, among other established personalities from various industries.
Celebrating Excellence and Enterprise Development
In his inaugural speech, Flutterwave founder and CEO Olugbenga Agboola emphasized that the gala was a celebration of excellence, ease, and enterprise development. He reflected on the company's origins, revealing that the delays and inefficiencies in online payments across Africa were the driving force behind Flutterwave's establishment in 2016.
"In 2016, we started a company that was intended to be a beacon of light for payments in Africa," Agboola stated. He highlighted the challenges of the pre-2016 era, noting that it was often faster to physically transport money by plane from Lagos to Accra than to use electronic payment systems, which required funds to be routed through New York before reaching Ghana.
Commendations from Leaders and Stakeholders
During separate goodwill messages, Chief Obasanjo, Koroma, Governor Sanwo-Olu, and Dr. Cosmas Maduka praised Agboola's efforts and resilience. They commended the young Nigerian entrepreneur for elevating the profile of Nigerians and Africans on the global stage through his innovative contributions to the fintech sector.
The event underscored Flutterwave's significant impact on Africa's digital payment landscape over the past decade, fostering financial inclusion and technological advancement across the continent.
