One of Nigeria's leading fintech companies, Plug.ng, has unveiled its Global eSIM service, a digital connectivity solution designed to provide Nigerian travelers with mobile data access in more than 150 countries without the need for physical SIM cards or costly roaming fees.
Addressing Connectivity Challenges
In a statement, the company explained that the service was developed to tackle the significant connectivity issues many Nigerians encounter while traveling abroad, including high roaming costs, unreliable network access, and the inconvenience of purchasing local SIM cards upon arrival in foreign countries.
CEO's Vision
Sam Aiyesoro, Chief Executive Officer of Plug.ng, emphasized the company's dedication to creating innovative digital solutions that enhance the daily lives of Nigerians. "At Plug.ng, we are constantly exploring ways to make digital experiences simpler and more accessible. The Global eSIM is designed to remove the stress of staying connected while traveling by providing Nigerians with a reliable and convenient connectivity solution wherever they are in the world," he stated.
How the Global eSIM Works
The Global eSIM enables travelers to access mobile data services across multiple countries through a straightforward digital process, eliminating the need for physical SIM cards. Users can purchase and top up their eSIM plans directly in naira using their Plug.ng balance.
Technical Insights from CTO
Olagunju Adetayo, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Plug.ng, highlighted that technology should serve as a problem solver. He noted that the Global eSIM provides Nigerian travelers with a seamless way to access connectivity instantly while removing the limitations associated with traditional SIM solutions. "We considered ease and flexibility when designing this feature. It takes less than two minutes from purchase to activation, and users can have an eSIM active on their smart devices almost immediately," he explained.
Global Coverage
Plug.ng confirmed that the Global eSIM is available across Europe, North America, South America, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Supported countries include South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the United States, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, China, Singapore, and Qatar, among others.
Important Usage Details
The company added that the Global eSIM is a data-only service designed specifically for Nigerians traveling outside the country and can only be activated when users are physically present in their destination countries.
Commitment to Innovation
Bello Ademola, Chief Marketing and Communication Officer of Plug.ng, stated that the launch reflects the company's commitment to creating tech-driven solutions that combine accessibility, convenience, and reliability. "Our goal is to ensure Nigerians can enjoy seamless digital experiences wherever they are. The Global eSIM is more than a connectivity product; it is a step toward making global mobility easier for our customers," he added.
Expanding Digital Ecosystem
The launch of the Global eSIM marks the latest addition to Plug.ng's growing digital community, which includes data subscriptions, airtime purchases, utility bill payments, airtime gifting services, virtual dollar cards for international transactions, and other financial services. The Global eSIM is currently available to customers through the Plug.ng mobile application on Android and iOS devices.
At a time when Nigeria faces economic challenges affecting citizens both at home and abroad, Plug.ng has stepped up to bridge the connectivity gap in the fintech space.
