In a strategic move that signals a major expansion beyond its core energy business, TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc has officially launched a new digital payment solution. The company introduced the TotalEnergies Mobility Card Plus (TEMC+), a platform designed to offer enhanced security and real-time transaction control for corporate clients and fleet operators across Nigeria.
Energy Giant Enters Competitive Fintech Arena
This launch positions the French energy multinational in direct competition with established Nigerian fintech leaders like Paystack and Flutterwave. The TEMC+ card was unveiled at a recent event in Lagos, described by the company as a significant upgrade that merges mobility services with advanced digital payment capabilities.
Dr. Samba Seye, the Managing Director of TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc, emphasized the company's commitment to innovation. Represented by the General Manager for Retail and Cards, Abdullahi Umar, Seye stated that TEMC+ was built to meet the demands of Nigeria's rapidly evolving digital economy, where speed, security, and transparency are paramount.
Nationwide Migration and Key Features
Concurrently with the launch, TotalEnergies has begun a nationwide migration from its existing card systems to the new TEMC+ platform. The company has set a deadline of 31 December 2025 for the full completion of this transition. Customers are being guided through the process with live demonstrations and dedicated support to ensure a smooth switch.
Osarobo Aigbogun, the Project Manager for TEMC+, revealed that the new system was developed based on extensive customer feedback. He described it as an evolution of the existing Total Card, focusing on growth and improvement rather than a complete replacement.
The TEMC+ platform offers a suite of features tailored for business efficiency:
- Three flexible payment options: card payment, mobile app payment, and one-time password (OTP) payment.
- A real-time extranet for fleet managers to blacklist/whitelist cards, set spending limits, and transfer funds instantly.
- Pre-authorization for accurate fuel dispensing and instant SMS alerts for all transactions.
- Virtual card options and on-the-spot fund reallocation to simplify operations.
"Once you credit your funds, they are available immediately and can be used straight away," Aigbogun noted, highlighting the platform's focus on improving business agility and simplifying financial reconciliation.
Targeting Fleet and Corporate Efficiency
The solution is specifically aimed at addressing the pain points of fleet operators and businesses that manage multiple vehicles. By providing tools for real-time control and visibility, TotalEnergies aims to reduce operational delays and fraud risks. The ability to generate PINs, unblock cards, and fund wallets without contacting customer service directly is a key selling point for large-scale operations.
This launch represents a clear push by TotalEnergies to deepen its value proposition in the Nigerian market, leveraging its extensive retail network to offer integrated, technology-led financial services. The move comes at a time when the Nigerian government has begun enforcing the Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL) on transactions above N10,000 across fintech platforms, adding another layer of context to the evolving digital payments landscape.
