In a significant move to modernize governance, the Kano State Government has officially introduced a new digital tool designed to bridge the gap between residents and public institutions. The platform, named the Fix Kano App, was unveiled to empower citizens by providing a direct channel to report community issues and monitor the government's response.
A Digital Gateway for Citizen-Government Interaction
The official launch ceremony took place on 17 December 2025 during the inaugural Kano Startup Weekend 2025. The event was organized by the Kano State Information Technology Development Agency (KASITDA) and saw participation from a diverse group of stakeholders. These included representatives from government bodies, the private sector, academic institutions, and the local technology ecosystem.
Speaking at the event, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf emphasized that the app is a cornerstone of his administration's strategy. He stated it reflects a commitment to using technology to foster more participatory governance, increase transparency, and improve the overall efficiency of public service delivery across the state.
How the Fix Kano App Works
Dr. Bashir Abdu Muzakkari, the Director General of KASITDA, provided detailed insights into the platform's functionality. He explained that the Fix Kano App acts as a structured gateway for interaction between the people and various government institutions.
The application covers a broad spectrum of public interest sectors, enabling reports on matters related to:
- Infrastructure and public works
- Security concerns
- Healthcare services
- Agricultural issues
- Environment and sanitation
- Educational needs
A key feature highlighted by Dr. Muzakkari is the integrated monitoring and feedback mechanism. This allows every user to track the progress of their submission from the initial report stage through to its final resolution, ensuring accountability.
He strongly urged Kano residents to adopt the Fix Kano App as their primary medium for engaging with the government. This, he noted, is a more effective alternative to relying solely on social media, where issues may trend briefly without guaranteed structured follow-up or institutional action.
National Recognition and Future Commitments
The launch event also featured Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). He commended the Kano State Government for deploying this innovative digital solution.
Abdullahi noted that the initiative promotes accountability, transparency, and data-driven governance. He added that it aligns perfectly with national digital transformation goals and serves as an exemplary model for other state governments looking to strengthen citizen engagement through technology.
The Kano State Government reaffirmed its dedication to supporting digital innovation and leveraging homegrown technological solutions. The overarching goal is to address societal challenges, improve governance outcomes, and ultimately build a stronger bond of trust between the government and the citizens it serves.
All residents of Kano State are now encouraged to download and actively use the Fix Kano App. By responsibly reporting issues affecting their communities, they can contribute directly to building a more responsive, inclusive, and efficient government.
