All On, a Nigerian impact investor focused on renewable energy, has announced the launch of the 2026 Off-Grid Energy Challenge. The initiative aims to accelerate clean energy innovation in Nigeria by providing funding, mentorship, and market access to early-stage companies developing off-grid energy solutions. The challenge is part of All On's broader mission to expand energy access in Nigeria, where over 80 million people lack reliable electricity.
Details of the Challenge
The 2026 Off-Grid Energy Challenge is open to Nigerian startups and small businesses that are developing innovative off-grid energy technologies, including solar home systems, mini-grids, and productive use appliances. Selected participants will receive grant funding of up to $100,000, technical assistance, and opportunities to pilot their solutions in underserved communities. The challenge will also connect winners with potential investors and partners in the clean energy sector.
According to All On's CEO, Caroline Eboumbou, 'The Off-Grid Energy Challenge is designed to identify and support the most promising clean energy innovators in Nigeria. By providing capital and expertise, we hope to accelerate the deployment of off-grid solutions that can transform lives and livelihoods.'
Impact and Goals
Nigeria has one of the largest energy access deficits globally, with approximately 40% of its population lacking electricity. Off-grid solutions are increasingly seen as a cost-effective way to bridge this gap, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas. The 2026 challenge aims to support at least 10 companies, with the potential to reach over 500,000 households with clean energy. All On has already invested in over 20 off-grid energy companies since its inception in 2017, impacting more than 1 million people.
The challenge also aligns with Nigeria's National Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Policy (NREEEP), which targets 30% renewable energy in the national grid by 2030. By fostering innovation, All On hopes to contribute to this goal while creating jobs and reducing carbon emissions.
Application and Timeline
Applications for the 2026 Off-Grid Energy Challenge will open on August 1, 2026, and close on October 31, 2026. Interested companies can apply through All On's website. The selection process will include a review of technical viability, business model, and potential for social impact. Finalists will be announced in December 2026, with winners receiving funding in early 2027.
Eboumbou added, 'We encourage all Nigerian entrepreneurs with innovative off-grid energy solutions to apply. This is an opportunity to scale your impact and help drive Nigeria's clean energy transition.'
The 2026 Off-Grid Energy Challenge represents a significant step forward in Nigeria's efforts to achieve universal energy access. With support from partners like the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), All On is well-positioned to drive meaningful change in the sector.
