China's General Administration of Customs has published an official list of seven categories of articles strictly prohibited from being brought into the country in 2026. The ban applies to all foreign nationals, including Nigerians, and carries serious legal consequences for violators.
Seven Banned Categories
The prohibited items include: 1) Arms, imitation arms, ammunition, and explosives; 2) Counterfeit currencies and negotiable securities; 3) Printed matter, films, photographs, gramophone records, cinematographic films, loaded recording tapes and video tapes, compact discs (video and audio), computer storage media, and other materials deemed detrimental to China's political, economic, cultural, or moral interests; 4) Deadly poisons; 5) Opium, addictive drugs, and psychotropic substances; 6) Fruits, solanaceous vegetables, live animals (excluding pet dogs and cats), animal products, and pathogenic micro-organisms; 7) Foodstuffs, medicines, and other articles from epidemic-affected areas or harmful to humans and livestock.
Legal Consequences and Declaration Rules
Chinese authorities warned that failing to declare restricted or prohibited articles to customs officials is a punishable offense, even if the traveler claims ignorance. The information was published on the official customs portal of the People's Republic of China.
