Greece, a popular destination in southern Europe, has officially released the names of only two African countries whose citizens can travel to the country without a visa. The Greek government confirmed that citizens of Mauritius and Seychelles are eligible for visa-free entry, allowing them to stay for up to 90 days.
Only Two African Nations on Greece’s Visa-Free List
According to the Greek government’s official website, approximately 30 countries worldwide enjoy visa-free access to Greece. However, from the entire African continent, only Mauritius and Seychelles made the list. The policy applies to short stays for tourism, business, or family visits, with a maximum duration of 90 days within any 180-day period.
Mauritius and Seychelles: The Eligible Countries
Both Mauritius and Seychelles are island nations in the Indian Ocean, known for their tourism industries. The Greek government’s decision aligns with similar visa-free policies adopted by other European countries. For instance, Portugal also grants visa-free access exclusively to Mauritius and Seychelles among African nations. Belgium likewise includes only a few African countries in its visa-waiver program.
Citizens of other African countries still require a visa to enter Greece, which can be obtained from Greek embassies or consulates.
How to Verify the List
The official list of visa-exempt countries is published on the Greek government’s website. Travelers are advised to check the latest information before planning their trip, as visa policies may change. The Greek government emphasizes that visa-free entry does not guarantee automatic admission; border officials retain the right to deny entry if conditions are not met.
