The Nigerian petty trader who went viral on Monday, July 6, after claiming she makes as much as N2.5 million monthly from selling roasted corn by the roadside, has come out to retract her claim.
Faith Obieke, the TikToker who recorded the first video, caught up with her again, and in a new video, she denied her initial claim and asked Nigerians to forgive her.
Retraction and Apology
In the new video, the trader stated that since she started the business, she has never made such an amount of money. She expressed regret over her earlier statement and pleaded for forgiveness from the public.
According to Obieke, the trader admitted that her initial claim was false and that she had exaggerated her earnings. The video has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many calling for more responsible sharing of information on social media.
Public Reaction
The original video had gone viral, drawing widespread attention and debate about the profitability of small-scale street vending in Nigeria. Many were skeptical of the claim, while others defended the trader, citing the potential for high sales in busy areas.
