HAF Distributes Food to 150+ PWDs in Abuja for Christmas
Foundation Brings Christmas Cheer to Abuja PWDs

In a heartwarming gesture of festive charity, the Hadiza Aliyu's Foundation (HAF) has brought smiles to the faces of vulnerable residents in the Federal Capital Territory. The non-governmental organisation distributed essential food items to more than 150 persons living with disabilities (PWDs) in Abuja, aiming to alleviate poverty and spread Christmas joy.

Festive Relief for the Karmajiji Community

The distribution event was held on December 24, 2025, at the Karmajiji disabilities colony. Leading the initiative was the Foundation's Founder and Chairperson, Hadiza Aliyu Muhammed. She expressed her organisation's deep commitment to supporting the PWD community, especially during the holiday season.

"We are here to deliver vital support to the Karmajiji community," Aliyu stated. "We came to put happy smiles on their faces because Christmas is approaching, and we are here to give back to society." She revealed that the foundation had initially planned to support 100 beneficiaries but felt compelled to expand its reach to approximately 150 individuals due to the evident need.

Empowerment Through Essential Support

Each beneficiary received a package containing 5kg of rice, groundnut oil, and spaghetti. Aliyu emphasised that the primary goal was to reduce the burden of providing food for families throughout the festive period. "We are distributing these gifts to at least 150 people as part of our little effort to empower and uplift them and to show support for persons with disabilities, who, for me, are among the most vulnerable in society," she noted.

Reflecting on the personal significance of the outreach, Aliyu added, "Helping the less privileged has a way of beautifying the soul, and this is very important to me."

Beyond Food: Addressing Critical Community Challenges

The Christmas food drive is part of HAF's broader, ongoing engagement with the Karmajiji community. Aliyu recalled the foundation's earlier visit, during which residents openly discussed pressing challenges. One particularly disturbing issue raised was the sexual abuse of children in the area.

In response to this alarming revelation, the foundation took proactive steps. "Following that, we organised a sexuality education lecture for primary school pupils to enlighten and sensitise them on the dangers of sexual abuse," Aliyu explained. This action highlights HAF's holistic approach, which combines immediate humanitarian support with long-term advocacy and protection programs for vulnerable groups.

The initiative underscores the foundation's dual mission of empowerment and protection. By addressing both the immediate need for nourishment and the critical issue of child safety, HAF demonstrates a comprehensive model for community development and support for persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
