Pastor Foluke Adeboye's Sacrifice: Discarding Gold Jewellery in Lagoon After Born Again Conversion
A resurfaced video of Pastor Foluke Adeboye, the wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has sparked widespread discussion online after she revealed the profound personal sacrifice she made following her conversion to born-again Christianity. The clip, which initially emerged approximately two years ago, has recently gone viral, reigniting conversations about faith, devotion, and the lengths individuals go to in their spiritual journeys.
The Viral Revelation: A Drastic Act of Faith
In the video, Pastor Adeboye recounted a pivotal moment from her early days in the RCCG, when wearing earrings and similar adornments was strongly discouraged within the church community. She explained that prior to her conversion, she had a keen interest in fashion and possessed valuable gold jewellery, including pieces she had set aside for her child. "The moment we were born again in RCCG, it was a taboo for you to have earrings. So everything, I dropped it in the lagoon," she stated, describing her decisive action.
She further shared that a friend of her mother questioned her choice, suggesting she should have given the jewellery to her mother instead of disposing of it. Adeboye responded with unwavering conviction, "Whatever is not good for me is not good for my mother." Reflecting on this act, she expressed no regrets, emphasizing that her faith journey demanded total commitment. "I don't miss anything, not much, because I have already sold my life," she added, highlighting her complete dedication to her spiritual path.
Recent Appointment as Chancellor of Caleb University
Beyond this personal testimony, Pastor Foluke Adeboye continues to wield significant influence in broader spheres. In February 2026, she was appointed as the Chancellor of Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, a role that underscores her impact extending well beyond the church. This appointment followed closely after she was conferred with an honorary Doctor of Humanity (Honoris Causa) during the institution's 15th convocation ceremony.
According to a statement released by the university's Information, Media and Publication Specialist, Olawale Adekoya, the Chancellor will preside over convocations, confer degrees, and serve as the ceremonial head of the institution. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olalekan Asikhia, described her appointment as highly significant for the university's growth and core values. "The conferment and subsequent appointment of the globally revered cleric, fondly known as 'Mummy G.O.,' signal what observers have described as 'a convergence of scholarship and sanctity' — a rare alignment of intellectual excellence and spiritual authority at the summit of university governance," the statement read.
The Registrar, Mr. Mayokun Olumeru, also praised her, describing Adeboye as "a guardian of values, and a steady moral compass in turbulent times." Widely recognized for her extensive work in education, family counselling, and youth mentorship, Pastor Foluke Adeboye's latest role further cements her status as a prominent figure bridging faith and academia.
