Living as Children of Light: A Biblical Guide to Christian Transformation
Biblical Guide to Living as Children of Light

Understanding Our Call as Children of Light

Reverend Abel Ukachi Amadi, in his powerful message dated November 29, 2025, emphasizes our divine calling to live as children of light according to Ephesians 5:8. This scripture reminds us: "For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light" (KJV). This transformation represents a fundamental shift in our spiritual identity and daily conduct.

The Practical Meaning of Walking in Light

Living as children of light requires intentional action and spiritual awareness. Reverend Amadi explains that this means consciously avoiding walking in darkness and being careful and wise about how we live our lives. The opposite of this careful living is carelessness, which we must actively resist.

The message draws from Psalm 90:12, which teaches us to "count our days that we may gain a wise heart." This wisdom manifests in our daily pursuit of goodness, righteousness, and truth every moment of our lives. As children of light, we are called to live for Christ consistently and pursue peace with all people while emulating Christ's example.

Rejecting the Deeds of Darkness

Reverend Amadi makes a clear distinction between light and darkness in Christian living. He emphasizes that children of light have nothing to do with the deeds of darkness, which include immorality, impurity, greed, foolishness, and vulgar talk. Ephesians 5:5 provides a stern warning that those who persist in such behaviors "has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God."

The transformation to becoming children of light must be evident in our lives. Reverend Amadi stresses that if you are truly a child of God, there must be a past tense in your life - meaning you are no longer living as you did before. As Apostle Paul stated, "For ye were sometimes darkness," indicating our previous domination by sin and death.

The Transformative Power of Christ's Light

Sin creates darkness in our lives, affecting both our minds and hearts, making us desire the shadows of this world. However, when Christ enters our lives, we are transformed into light and become children of light. This transformation means we no longer manifest deeds of darkness but rather deeds of light.

Light symbolizes God's purity and holiness, revealing truth about ourselves and our condition. Since God's essential nature is holiness, love, light, and truth, there is no room for darkness in Him. Walking in light means walking with God and having no fellowship with darkness.

Reverend Amadi reminds us that everyone who practices sin becomes enslaved to it, which is why Jesus came to set us free from sin's slavery and bring us into His marvelous light. Through Christ, sin no longer has power over us because He has given us victory over sin and all fleshly desires.

The message concludes with a challenging truth from 1 John 1:6: "If we claim we have fellowship with him and live in the darkness, we are lying and do not act truthfully." True conversion requires dying to our old life and emerging from darkness to live a new life in Christ, as described in Romans 6:4.
