Knights of St. Mulumba Lead Pro-Life Walk in Lagos, Urge Nigerians to Reject Abortion
The Knights of St. Mulumba, Nigeria, Lagos Metro, Region 4, conducted a significant Prolife Walk and Talk event last Saturday at St. Jude Catholic Church in Mafoluku, Lagos. This initiative, themed "Protect The Unborn, Human Life Is Sacred," aimed to raise public awareness about the critical importance of preserving life and opposing abortion practices across Nigerian communities.
Campaign Activities and Public Engagement
During the event, participants embarked on a walk through various streets in Mafoluku, actively distributing informational leaflets to residents and students. The campaign sought to educate the public on the moral and health implications of abortion, encouraging everyone to choose life and uphold the value of human existence from conception.
Father Jude Mary Owoh, delivering a keynote address, underscored the profound dangers associated with abortion. He urged young people to cherish their lives and avoid actions that could jeopardize their futures. Owoh referenced findings from the British Journal of Psychiatry, noting that women who undergo abortion procedures face an 81% increased risk of mental health issues, including severe anxiety, clinical depression, and higher tendencies toward substance abuse.
Theological and Ethical Perspectives
Owoh emphasized that life is sacred and that every unborn child is a divine creation with a specific purpose and destiny assigned by God. He clarified the Catholic Church's stance, stating that life should not be treated as a commodity or something easily disposable. "Sometimes, we think we can always have another child if we terminate the unborn one, but it is not as simple as it sounds. The unborn child is God's creation and a precious gift," Owoh explained.
He called on parents to instill the sanctity of life in their children through daily demonstrations of unconditional love. "Tell your children that nothing they do will make you stop loving them. This assurance helps them feel valued and behave responsibly. When they know your love is unwavering, they will turn to you in times of trouble," Owoh advised.
Additionally, Owoh encouraged students to focus on their academic pursuits and reserve sexual intimacy for marriage, promoting a lifestyle aligned with moral and religious principles.
Admonition from Leadership
In his remarks, Brother Emmanuel Dumuje, the Grand Knight of Ajao Sub-council and Coordinating GK, urged Christians to embody virtuous behavior both privately and publicly. He expressed concern over some parents' negligence in caring for their children and advised students not to harbor anger toward their parents, regardless of circumstances.
Dumuje reassured the youth that dedication to studies and diligence would lead to future greatness, reinforcing the event's message of hope and responsibility. The Prolife Walk and Talk served as a powerful platform for advocacy, blending spiritual guidance with practical advice to foster a culture that respects and protects human life at all stages.
