FUTA Warns Graduates: Misconduct Could Lead to Certificate Withdrawal
FUTA: Misconduct May Lead to Certificate Withdrawal

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has issued a strong warning to its graduating students that any form of misconduct or misrepresentation could lead to the withdrawal of their hard-earned certificates.

Vice-Chancellor's Stern Warning

Professor Adenike Oladiji, the Vice-Chancellor of FUTA, delivered this crucial message during the institution's 36th Convocation and Award of First Degrees ceremony held on Friday, November 14. The event saw 2,747 students receiving their degrees for the 2024/2025 academic session.

Professor Oladiji emphasized the importance of character in determining future success, stating: "As it is often said, no man can climb beyond the limits of his character. Your character will determine how far you will go in life."

The Vice-Chancellor made it explicitly clear that the university reserves the right to withdraw certificates from any graduate who misrepresents the institution or engages in misconduct after graduation.

Academic Excellence and Achievements

Among the graduating class, 240 students achieved First Class honors, demonstrating exceptional academic performance. The breakdown of other results includes:

  • 1,479 students in Second Class Upper Division
  • 912 students in Second Class Lower Division
  • 116 students in Third Class

The overall best graduating student was Aduragbemi Akindunbi from the Department of Civil Engineering, who achieved an impressive Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.98.

Skills and Character Development

Professor Oladiji highlighted the complementary relationship between skills and character, noting that while skills can help graduates reach the top, character is essential for maintaining that position. She commended the achievements of FUTA alumni over the years and expressed confidence that the new graduates would become alumni the institution could be proud of.

The Pro-Chancellor, Professor Nora Daduut, also addressed the graduating class, praising President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Initiative. She revealed that over 3,000 students had benefited from the student loan scheme introduced under this initiative, which has significantly improved access to tertiary education for Nigerian students.

Professor Daduut urged the graduates to become agents of positive change in society and reminded them that the values and character cultivated during their time at FUTA would define their professional and personal lives.

The ceremony served as both a celebration of academic achievement and a solemn reminder of the responsibilities that come with being a FUTA graduate in the Nigerian professional landscape.
