Ireti Doyle Almost Rejected Fuji House of Commotion Role

Ireti Doyle's Near-Rejection of a Career-Defining Role

Nollywood actress Ireti Doyle has opened up about a pivotal moment in her career, recounting how she almost turned down the role of Sisi Carol in the popular Nigerian sitcom Fuji House of Commotion. In a video shared by PulseNG on YouTube, Doyle explained that her hesitation stemmed from her established image in more refined roles, particularly after starring in Amaka Igwe's Solitaire.

The Challenge from Amaka Igwe

Doyle recalled that the sitcom's director, the late Amaka Igwe, summoned her to her office about two weeks after wrapping Solitaire. Igwe offered her the role of Sisi Carol, Chief Fuji's fourth wife, but Doyle was reluctant. She said, 'I was like how do I go from acting as a lawyer to Sisi Carol, wife number four?' Igwe responded with a challenge that pricked Doyle's artistic ego: 'A consummate actor is one who is able to run the entire gamut, from hardcore strong characters all the way down to slapstick. Maybe you lack range.'

How the Role Transformed Her Career

Doyle accepted the role, and it quickly made her a household name. She expressed gratitude to Igwe, saying, 'So Amaka, thank you so much not just for the role but for your wisdom.' The sitcom, which revolved around a wealthy man with four wives and many children, became a cultural staple in Nigeria and cemented Doyle's status as a versatile actress.
