A Nigerian lady has ignited a fiery conversation on social media after publicly rejecting a Christmas monetary gift from her boyfriend, citing the stringent conditions he attached to it.
The Viral TikTok Video and WhatsApp Chat
The controversy began when a TikTok user with the handle @bluzie05 posted a video on December 24, 2025. The video featured a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation between herself and her boyfriend. In the chat, the boyfriend is seen to have transferred the sum of ₦35,000 to her for the purpose of plaiting her hair for the Christmas celebrations.
However, the gesture quickly turned sour when, after sending the money, the boyfriend issued a specific instruction. He stated in a voice note, as quoted in the video: "Money wey I send give you so, na March you for lose the hair o, make them tight am well oo." This translates to him mandating that she should not remove the hairstyle until the month of March.
Lady's Furious Rejection and Refund Threat
The lady was visibly upset by this stipulation. She fired back in the chat, describing his statement as "rubbish talk." She expressed her displeasure by comparing his gift to what she perceived as the norm from other men.
"I no really understand, which kind rubbish talk be all these ones. You send me 35,000 make I take do hair and I go use am till March. No be your mate dey send their babe 200k, 500k no dey give me condition o," she retorted.
She clarified that she only intended to keep the hairstyle for the month of December. In a bold move, she asked him to send his bank account details so she could refund the money if he insisted on the March condition. "Na only December I wan carry this hair. If you know say you no go gree, send your account number make I send your money back," she stated.
Boyfriend's Angry Retort and Online Reactions
The boyfriend did not take her rejection lightly. He responded with anger, defending his position and warning her. He emphasized that his only condition was for her not to remove the hair until March and criticized her for comparing him to others.
"All these your pickup line, you go cut am off o... If e easy, go find the boy wey dey give 200k and 500k. Which kind mumu talk be that one... Last warning," he wrote in the chat.
The video attracted numerous comments from netizens, with many taking sides. A user named Moh's humorously speculated, "Guy dey try to avoid February 14," suggesting the rule was a tactic to avoid spending on Valentine's Day. Another commenter, Wilfred C Wilfred, noted, "Na that comparism spoil everything," blaming the lady's comparison for escalating the conflict.
Others like Princy_fundz advised the boyfriend to take the money back and use it on a bet, while Sunnex commented on the boyfriend's lack of joy in his giving.
The incident highlights contemporary debates about gift-giving, conditions in relationships, and financial expectations among young Nigerians, particularly during festive periods like Christmas.
