The Lagos State House of Assembly has made a significant decision to reject Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's nominee for the position of General Manager at the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPPA), emphasizing the importance of following proper legislative procedures.
Nomination Nullified Over Procedural Breach
During a recent plenary session, lawmakers unanimously voted to nullify the nomination of Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu after discovering she had been serving in the role since 2021 without undergoing the constitutionally required confirmation process by the Assembly.
The rejection followed a detailed report presented by Mojeed Fatai, Chairman of the 12-man Ad Hoc Committee responsible for screening nominees. Fatai explicitly stated that "this breach of legislative procedure was a key factor in the committee's recommendation for her nullification."
The Assembly invoked Section 92 of the Lagos State Transport Reform Law as the legal basis for their decision, demonstrating their commitment to upholding constitutional requirements in the appointment of public officials.
Two Other Nominees Successfully Confirmed
While rejecting Mrs. Adelabu's nomination, the Assembly demonstrated balanced judgment by confirming two other nominees for crucial positions in the state's administrative structure.
The successful confirmations include:
- Mrs. Adeyemo Khadijat as Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission
- Mrs. Adepoju Adebajo as Chairman of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF)
The LSETF position is particularly significant given the agency's central role in the state's efforts to create employment opportunities and support small business development.
Massive ₦4.237 Trillion Budget Proposal Initiated
In separate but equally important developments, the Lagos State House of Assembly has officially commenced preparations for the 2026 fiscal year.
The legislative process began when Clerk Olalekan Onafeko read a formal communication from Governor Sanwo-Olu on the House floor, requesting a date to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
The proposed budget carries an estimated total of ₦4.237 trillion, representing another ambitious spending plan for Nigeria's commercial capital. This communication initiates the necessary legislative process required before the Governor can formally present the details of his administration's financial blueprint for the coming year.
Infrastructure Project Postponed
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government announced the postponement of rehabilitation works on the Lekki-Ajah corridor, which had been originally scheduled to commence on Saturday, 15th November 2025.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the government confirmed that while preliminary activities will continue until the end of the month, full rehabilitation works will not begin until a revised schedule is announced.
The new commencement date will be communicated in due course, with the state government expressing appreciation for the understanding and patience of all road users while reaffirming its commitment to improving road infrastructure and ensuring safer, more efficient transportation for residents.
Speaker Dr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa commended the diligence of the Ad Hoc Committee and reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to accountability and the appointment of qualified individuals to public offices, emphasizing that due process remains non-negotiable in the state's governance structure.
