In a significant move to support young women in Lagos, a prominent advocate for the girl-child has taken a concrete step to address a critical barrier to education. Toya Adeniyi, through her 'Pad a Girl' initiative, has provided sanitary pads to one thousand schoolgirls, aiming to foster an environment where they can thrive academically.
Empowerment Through Essential Hygiene
The donation event, which took place in Lagos State, was held to mark the conclusion of the 'Pad a Girl' project. The initiative was a collaborative effort involving Miss SCASSON and St. Augustine College of Education, Akoka, Lagos, represented by Cynthia Maduekwe. The core mission was clear: to enable these young girls to focus on their studies and realize their full potential without the distraction and stigma often associated with menstruation.
Toya Adeniyi, who is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of LAM, a London-based health-focused company, spoke passionately about the interconnection between education and menstrual well-being. She stressed that a girl cannot concentrate on learning if she does not feel safe, clean, and confident during her menstrual cycle.
Education as a Tool for Transformation
Adeniyi placed a strong emphasis on the transformative power of education.
