Adamawa Police Arrest Man for Cyberbullying First-Class Chiefs

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old man, Buriba Israel, in connection with alleged cyberbullying and criminal intimidation of First-Class Chiefs of the Numan Federation. The arrest followed a formal complaint and subsequent police investigation into offensive social media publications made through his Facebook handle, 'Buriba Israel'.

Allegations and Investigation Details

According to a statement from the command's spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly made and circulated social media publications containing accusations against the traditional rulers. The publications were considered offensive, disparaging, and capable of undermining their reputation and dignity.

Nguroje confirmed that the suspect was arrested following the formal complaint. Relevant electronic devices and other materials linked to the alleged offences have been recovered and are undergoing further forensic examination as investigation continues.

Police Warning on Social Media Use

The police image maker emphasised that while citizens have the right to freedom of expression, such rights must be exercised responsibly and within the confines of the law. He warned that the use of social media to harass, threaten, intimidate, defame, or deliberately circulate harmful content against individuals or institutions will not be tolerated.

Commissioner's Directive

The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, has directed that the case be thoroughly investigated. The suspect will be made to face the full wrath of the law if found culpable, ensuring accountability for the alleged cyberbullying of the traditional rulers.
