A member of the House of Representatives, Olamijuwonlo Alao Akala, representing Ogbomosho North/Ogbomosho South/Oriire Federal Constituency, has called for the establishment of a military base in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. This demand follows a recent attack on schools by suspected bandits.
Condolence Visit and Condemnation
Akala made the demand during a condolence visit to the Oko-Ile community, where gunmen reportedly attacked Baptist Primary School, Yawota, and Community High School, Esin-Ele. Several students and the school principal were abducted in the incident.
The lawmaker strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a direct assault on education and public safety. He stated, "This inhumane criminal act, which has been ongoing for some time, is a direct assault on our educational system and a grave threat to our collective safety and wellbeing in our homes, schools, and communities. It is unacceptable and strongly condemned."
Call for Action and State Policing
Akala appealed to security agencies in Ogbomoso and across Oyo State to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted victims and bring the perpetrators to justice. He urged the Federal Government to fast-track the implementation of state policing and to establish a military base in Oriire Local Government Area to address recurring attacks and insecurity.
"I am using this opportunity to appeal and call on the security operatives in Ogbomoso and across Oyo State to immediately swing into action to rescue the abducted and apprehend the perpetrators of this evil act," he stated.
Engagement and Condolences
The lawmaker assured residents that he would continue to engage relevant stakeholders and monitor developments until normalcy is restored. He expressed condolences to the families affected by the attack and prayed for the safe return of the abducted victims.
"My heartfelt condolences go to the families of those who lost their lives in this unfortunate incident, and I pray for the quick, safe, and unharmed return of all the abducted victims," he added.
