Ukrainian Soldiers Use Robot to Rescue Elderly Woman from Russian Fire
Robot Rescues 72-Year-Old Grandma from War Zone

Ukrainian soldiers saved an elderly woman's life by using a robot to bring her to safety. The 72-year-old woman was spotted by an aerial drone walking among deceased bodies on a bullet-riddled road near the city of Lyman, Ukraine. Aerial footage shows the unnamed woman leaning on two walking sticks as she navigates through the war-torn region.

The Rescue Mission

Fighters from the 60th Separate Mechanised Brigade launched a rescue operation using an unmanned ground system called Cerberus. The unit shared a video on social media showing one of the fighters monitoring the live feed as the woman struggled. He remarks, 'It looks like shortness of breath or something.' To avoid frightening her, the soldiers draped a blanket over the robot and attached a written message: 'Grandma, hop on!'

Video from the command center shows the soldiers encouraging the woman, saying, 'Come on, come on, that's it!' as she climbs onto the back of the vehicle. One soldier adds, 'Zoom in on its legs, please, we want to see if they're catching on the tarmac so that, God forbid, its tracks don't get damaged.'

Evacuation Details

The 3rd Army Corps, which the 60th Brigade is part of, wrote on X that the woman's home of 53 years was destroyed by Russian forces. Three other villagers were also evacuated during the four-hour mission. The corps added, 'Once they reached an armoured vehicle, fighters from the 1st Mechanised Battalion took them out of the combat zone and transferred to the Angels patronage service from the 3rd Corps. The Third Army Corps urges: evacuate in advance to preserve the most precious thing – life.'

As the woman was helped into the back of the battalion's truck, a soldier is heard saying, 'That's it, we can all finally breathe… Thank God.' This incident follows previous rescues by Ukrainian soldiers, including evacuating a cat and a dog from the frontline using a robotic aerial vehicle.
