A significant joint security operation has successfully led to the destruction of suspected criminal camps and the recovery of a substantial cache of firearms and ammunition in Rivers State. The raid, conducted on April 12, 2026, specifically targeted hideouts utilized by kidnappers and other organized criminal groups operating in the region.

In an official statement released by the Rivers State Police Command, it was confirmed that tactical teams executed this operation in close collaboration with multiple security agencies. These included the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. The action was initiated following direct directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, aimed at strengthening overall security measures and enhancing inter-agency coordination across the nation.
Details of the Raid and Recovered Items
Security operatives stormed and dismantled key criminal camps located at IPO and Igwuruta-Ali. During the operation, a variety of items were recovered, underscoring the severity of the threat. The seized materials included:
- An AK-47 rifle
- A pump-action gun
- 274 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition
- Four cartridges
- Locally made bulletproof materials
- An iron cutter
- Communication equipment
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the pump-action gun may belong to the leader of a local vigilante group known as OSPAC. This individual was reportedly abducted prior to the operation, adding a layer of complexity to the case.
Arrest and Ongoing Manhunt
During the raid, one suspect was apprehended at the scene, while others managed to flee. Authorities have since launched an intensive manhunt to capture the fleeing suspects. The police statement emphasized, "The criminal camps were destroyed, and investigation is ongoing with a view to apprehending those at large and rescuing the kidnapped victim."
