Edo State Police Command has apprehended a 19-year-old driver following a dangerous incident that left three police officers with injuries. The suspect, identified as Nsikak Okon, was taken into custody after a series of high-speed and reckless maneuvers on the road.
Sequence of a Dangerous Chase
The incident, which was later detailed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, began when Okon was spotted driving a vehicle with heavy tint and no license plates. Officers initially tried to stop him, but he sped past them in a reckless manner.
According to reports, the situation escalated when Okon returned to the same route. On this return trip, he nearly knocked down an officer and then proceeded to deliberately hit three other police officers with his car. His reckless driving also caused damage to other vehicles before he was finally intercepted and arrested by the police.
Recovery and Discovery of Suspected Drugs
The three injured officers were promptly taken to a hospital for medical attention. As of the latest update, two of the officers have been treated and discharged, while one remains under medical care for further observation and treatment.
A subsequent search of the suspect's vehicle led to a significant discovery. The police found substances believed to be hard drugs inside the car. This adds a serious layer to the offenses already committed by the young driver.
Police Question Motive as Case Develops
CSP Benjamin Hundeyin expressed dismay at the suspect's actions, questioning why he chose to start the year 2026 with such severe criminal behavior. The offenses being investigated now include reckless and dangerous driving, assault on police officers, and possession of illicit substances.
The arrest was confirmed on Thursday, January 16, 2026. The case highlights ongoing concerns about road safety, youth involvement in crime, and attacks on security personnel in the state. The police have indicated that a thorough investigation is underway and the suspect will be charged to court accordingly.
