The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has officially commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for successfully addressing the persistent delays in driver's licence issuance across Nigeria. This recognition follows a formal communication sent by PEBEC to the Corps on November 7, 2025, regarding concerns about service delivery efficiency.
FRSC's Comprehensive System Overhaul
According to the presidential council, the FRSC conducted a complete internal review to identify critical bottlenecks within the national driver's licence production system. The Corps moved swiftly to restore full system functionality and implemented enhanced monitoring mechanisms designed to prevent future delays and ensure consistent service delivery.
Backlog Elimination and Production Surge
The council welcomed the FRSC's achievement in completely clearing the accumulated backlog of driver's licence applications. Notably, the Corps has significantly increased its daily production capacity, now capable of producing up to 15,000 licences per day.
Of particular importance is the introduction of the Contactless Biometric Capture System, a technological advancement that aims to deliver permanent driver's licences to applicants within 48 hours. This innovation effectively eliminates the need for temporary licences, streamlining the entire process for Nigerian drivers.
Nationwide Call for Licence Collection
PEBEC has encouraged all applicants whose licences have been produced to visit FRSC centres nationwide to collect their permanent driver's licences. This initiative forms part of a comprehensive nationwide campaign to retrieve over 294,000 unclaimed licences, which will help decongest service centres and improve overall operational efficiency.
Commitment to Enhanced Public Service
Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, Director-General of PEBEC, reiterated the council's commitment to collaborating with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure seamless, responsive, and business-friendly public service delivery across Nigeria.
"This milestone demonstrates the impact of proactive regulatory oversight and collaboration," she stated, adding that the new system will enhance transparency and significantly improve citizen experience in accessing public services.
