Nigeria's Interior Ministry Mandates E-Correspondence from Dec 1, 2025
Interior Ministry Makes Electronic Correspondence Mandatory

The Nigerian Ministry of Interior has declared a full shift to electronic communication for all its official dealings, marking a significant milestone in the nation's public service digitalization journey.

Digital Transition Details and Effective Date

In a decisive move, the Ministry announced that starting December 1, 2025, it will no longer accept physical letters or any form of manual correspondence. This directive was formalized in a press release signed by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary, acting on behalf of the Minister of Interior.

The policy is a direct implementation of the Digitalisation Reform Pillar of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan, FCSSIP 2025. It follows a broader mandate from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, which requires all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to adopt electronic communication and records management systems.

Approved Digital Platforms for Submission

The Ministry has designated specific channels for all future official communications. From the December 1st deadline, all documents and requests must be submitted through these approved digital platforms.

The two primary channels are:

  • Email Portal: The Interior Correspondence Platform accessible at https://interas.interior.gov.ng.
  • Website Submission: The Ministry of Interior's Official Website at https://www.interior.gov.ng, where submissions can be made via the backend after completing a registration process.

Commitment to Improved Service Delivery

Dr. Ajani emphasized that this transition is a core part of the Ministry's commitment to strengthening service delivery and improving transparency. This initiative aligns with the Federal Government's wider objective of creating a fully digitalized public service that is efficient and accessible.

The Ministry has issued a strong appeal to all MDAs, partner organizations, and the general public to adhere fully to this new directive. Full compliance is essential for the smooth and efficient processing of all communications and service requests, paving the way for a more modernized government operation in Nigeria.
