Lagos Government Delays Major Road Project

The Lagos State Government has officially announced the postponement of rehabilitation works on the crucial Lekki-Ajah road corridor, which was initially scheduled to begin on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, confirmed that the project has been delayed to a later date. He assured residents that the new commencement date for the full-scale rehabilitation will be communicated in due course.

While preliminary activities on the corridor will continue until the end of the month, major construction works will not begin until the government announces a revised schedule.

The state government expressed its gratitude for the understanding and patience of all road users, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing road infrastructure and ensuring safer, more efficient transportation across Lagos.

Assembly Commences 2026 Budget Process

In a parallel development, the Lagos State House of Assembly has formally begun preparations for the 2026 fiscal year.

The legislative body received a formal communication from Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, requesting a date to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill.

The proposed budget carries an estimated total of ₦4.237 trillion, signaling another ambitious spending plan for Nigeria's commercial capital. The communication, read on the House floor by the Clerk, Mr. Olalekan Onafeko, initiates the necessary legislative process required before the Governor can formally present the details of the administration's financial blueprint for the upcoming year.

Assembly Rejects Nominee, Confirms New Appointments

The Assembly also made significant decisions regarding key appointments in state agencies. Lawmakers rejected the nomination of Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu as the General Manager of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPAA).

The decision followed a presentation by Hon. Mojeed Fatai, Chairman of the 12-man Ad Hoc Committee responsible for screening nominees. Fatai revealed that Mrs. Adelabu had been serving in the role since 2021 without appearing before the House for the constitutionally mandated confirmation, representing a clear breach of legislative procedure.

"This breach of legislative procedure was a key factor in the committee's recommendation for her nullification," he told fellow lawmakers. The Assembly subsequently adopted the recommendation, citing Section 92 of the Lagos State Transport Reform Law.

In contrast, the House confirmed two other nominees for crucial positions. Mrs. Adeyemo Khadijat was approved as the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission, while Mrs. Adepoju Adebajo was confirmed as the Chairman of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), a critical body for job creation and small business support in the state.

Speaker Dr. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa commended the diligence of the Ad Hoc Committee and reiterated the Assembly's commitment to due process, accountability, and the appointment of qualified individuals to positions of public trust for the benefit of all Lagosians.
